All efforts these days concentrate on openSUSE 10.3, the one CD installation medias and Live CD installer testing: the release candidate is planned for Thursday. The German box version is already listed and can be pre-ordered (eg SUSE Shop, Amazon.de). It will include a total of 16GB software for 32 and 64bit on two dual-layer DVDs this time!
I updated the KDE4 of openSUSE 10.3 packages a last time with an SVN snapshot of this week. And didn't forget to create a new "KDE Four Live" CD with them which works slightly better (eg more plasmoids work) than the previous version built from the KDE 4.0 Beta 2 release tarballs.

SATA cd drive support
I'd love to play around with the live cd, but it doesn't work on my system. My dvd drive is on /dev/sr0 and the livecd can't boot. Maybe kernel support isn't there.
I find quite a few livecds have this issue, but if you could fix it I'd be very grateful.

BTW: It would be nice to offer a version of the Live CD without the graphical boot splash, as that prevents it from booting in certain hardware-assisted virtualization systems (e.g. the Linux kernel's KVM) on Intel CPUs, because real mode isn't fully supported in vm86 on those.

An extra version? Try "splash=silent" as boot option.

The problem begins with the patched SuSE bootloader - a KVM VM on an Intel CPU is not capable of booting the Live CD to the point where a kernel boot parameter could be added.

Ok, talked to our expert this morning and we have a pending bug report about it.
The work-around for you is to hold the Shift key during boot and then it will ask whether it should load boot graphic.

To explain further, the problem is technical Intel's fault for not emulating real mode calls in vm86 mode, and technically KVM's problem because they could be emulating what Intel's CPUs can't do -- and in fact they're working on that, but it's going to take a while, and given that those KDE 4 Live CDs are of interested to technically-minded people as is KVM, there's an intersection there where they don't work. There's even a thread on the KVM mailing list.
One workaround would be to offer a version of the Live CD there the bootloader doesn't depend on real mode calls.
This affects plenty of Live CDs, and other virtualization solutions than KVM as well (such as Xen when used in a certain way), and several distros (e.g. Ubuntu) are pondering what to do about it.
